Dental Cleaning Instructions Following Cosmetic Dentistry
The hygiene department and the doctors of Arlington Adult Dentistry have developed these recommendations to assist in the protection and care of your cosmetic dentistry.
-
Recent articles indicate prophy jets should not be used under any circumstances. They will dull the finish of any materials we use and increase plaque and stain retention on cosmetic products.
-
Scalers or cavitrons may be used, but only at the gingival margins to achieve the desired periodontal debridement. Do not let scalers or the cavitron tip touch the surface of the restorations. These dental instruments will leave gray scratches on your cosmetic restorations. The scratches will need to be removed, and your restorations will require re-polishing.
-
Standard prophy cups may be used as long as no special abrasive products have been added to them.
-
The preferred prophy paste is Closys II by Rowpar. This should be used for its low abrasivity. Enamelize by Cosmedent can also be used. All other pastes are too abrasive for cosmetic restorations.
-
The interval between cleanings that has been established for your individual needs should be maintained.
We recommend an annual exam with us to evaluate and maintain the best long-term results.
