Postoperative Instructions: Extractions, Oral Surgery, and Implants
DO NOT SMOKE - Refrain for 48 hours.
DO NOT RINSE - No gargling, drinking through a straw, or spitting for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may brush your teeth and rinse your mouth gently, using warm salt water or Listerine.
BLEEDING - Some bleeding is normal. If it persists, use gauze or a moist tea bag over the affected area and bite down firmly for ½ hour.
SWELLING - If instructed, for the first 8 hours after surgery apply ice to the affected area -- ½ hour on and then ½ hour off. Discontinue after 8 hours. Swelling will dissipate after 36 hours.
DIET - Soft foods for the first 24 hours (please refer to our “Dental Soft Diet”). No foods with small pieces (Nuts, popcorn, etc.)
IMPLANTS - Do not jar, bump or wiggle fixtures.
Failure to follow the above instructions may lead to complications in your treatment.
